The primary and fundamental design element is the Y, which consists of small crosses, originating from a workshop of young people who participated in the YOUCAT. Each person painted their favorite cross on a large screen. The result is a collage, which became the basis of design.
YOUCAT is first and foremost an abbreviation for YOUth CATechism, but there are many more interpretations to it regarding the book as well as faith: YOU are directly addressed. And CAT not only stands for Catechism but also Catholic. Here are some more associations:
YOUth CATechism
YOUr CATechism
YOU CATholic
and maybe even
YOUth CATholicism
So, YOU are challenged by faith, it's YOUR catechism, make it YOUR own, it's YOUR faith that has been given to you, so make it yours! This is about YOU, YOU are wanted, YOU are needed. Furthermore, youth refers not only to those young in age but also to those young in faith. And when faith is young, questions are the same, whether you are 15 or 50.
